Truth and Lies

A proper lie does not simply contradict the truth, it redirects it.

If I were to stand in front of you flapping my arms and say “HEY LOOK! I’M FLYING!” That would not be a very effective lie as it very clearly contradicts several truths you believe and see. However if I were to tell you I HAD flown, without explaining the method or time. This would be far more believable as your brain allows you to rationalize this.

Every effective lie has some nugget of truth to it. Imagine if you will that truth was in fact a straight road that led a certain direction. Lies would be side paths which slowly curve off from it.

Much like the poor and lowly frog who is boiled to death in a pot of water that is slowly heated up. We often do not realize what a lie is, until it is far too late to turn back.

Why is this important to know? Well for one thing… to realize that lies don’t always seem nonsensical. In a lot of ways, lies can often seem far more rational than the truth. Think of the problems Sherlock Holmes had to face arguing for the true culprit whilst the police were satisfied with their easily explainable catch. Just because something makes sense to you, does not mean that it is true. For we are humans of limited perspective. We are not omnipotent… even the things we “know” we only assume we know. How long did we believe the sky was blue until we realized that was only an optical illusion? How long did people argue that space and time were eternal until we realized there were edges and even holes to both? How long did we feel this planet was all there was until we saw there were planets further still? Do you honestly think that out of the 7000+ years of recorded history, that NOW we understand everything there is to know? That’s a frighteningly foolish thing to believe. Especially when we don’t even understand everything they knew 7000 years ago!

The second reason why this is important to know is that there are always areas of our world that we don’t understand due to our limited perspective and often our reaction to these issues are to ignore them and pretend they don’t exist. Be they spiritual issues, morality issues, purpose issues… Everyone has something that they would rather just deny the existence of than face and discuss… however the issue with this is that just because you don’t deal with an issue enough to face it, doesn’t mean no one else does.

I cannot begin to count the amount of people I know of who have walked down very VERY dark paths simply because the people on said paths were far more willing to discuss topics that had made them curious than the people around them. The promise of knowledge has always been one of the most effective temptations out there… possibly even more than the promise of power!

So how do we face truth and lies then? Do we take the currently trending method of believing that EVERYONE is wrong in some way or point and therefore EVERYONE is equally right in our wrongness?

This is within itself a fairly dangerous belief…

In a way, this belief makes the most sense… If every lie holds some resemblance of the truth, then shouldn’t we simply have to search for the semblance of truth in every lie to understand the world?

While the theory is sound. It lacks in one very vital area. That area being that it places YOURSELF in the judging seat as to what is truth and what is lie. And as we have covered several times already; We are VERY limited in our perspective to be able to make such a decision.

When people are their own judge of what’s right and wrong, we begin to slowly veer off course into highly dangerous territory. There is no one easier to lie to than yourself, for with each successful lie, your blind spot grows larger with your pride.

Why has a vengeful nature become so justified? Why has greed and pride become so celebrated? Why has most anything that feels good become such a constitutional right in spite of any future effects? Because as humans… our only judge of what’s right and what’s wrong is ultimately what feels right and what feels wrong… and bad things feel AMAZING!

There is a reason why the most reoccuring description of an irredeemable, sinful country in the Bible always ended with “They did what was right in their own eyes.” What has been more dangerous to mankind in the past 7000+ years than self justification??

So what do we need then to balance out our search for truth? Well it will seem redundant…. but to FIND truth, we must first HAVE a truth to compare it to. (Kind of like looking for a colour while having paint swatches and samples) And to know what IS truth… in that area we must have faith….

Now “Faith” is treated as a scary word in our culture today… but the truth is that EVERYONE has faith to some extent. You have faith this is Malcolm writing this. You have faith your food isn’t overdo or poisoned in spite of all the people it passed who could do that. I have (sometimes unfounded) faith that my computer won’t crash before I finish writing this status! Faith is not something you can live without. It’s something we all have and use daily.

So what is your foundation of what is true and what is not? Do you have faith in a God who came to created us and wants to save us? A god we have to earn favour with? Many gods we have to entertain so we might benefit from them? Do you have faith in a person writing posts online? (wait a minute…) A theory someone came up with to support a theory they had about an observation they made? Your own gut sense?

We all have faith in SOMETHING from which we decipher what is true and what is not. An evolutionist would look at the Grand Canyon and say “Man. This proves the earth is billions of years old as it would take that long for that tiny trickle to make this huge canyon. A Christian (As well as several other religions) would look at the Grand Canyon and say “Man. This proves there was a global flood. What else could cause such world shaping?” (Fun Fact: A Creation Story, a Flood, and An end are three of the most common reoccurences in religions) But see how a different foundational truth affects how you justify and rationalize the observations you make??

Even with a foundational truth however; there are many who fall back into the first example.

To accept a foundational truth is to accept the consequences that come with it.

I cannot say that I will be there for you every Tuesday night and then proceed to make plans with someone else. I cannot say I serve a God who loves His creation but then say He’s okay with us destroying ourselves or each other as long as we enjoy it. I cannot say that man was a mistake and then say but you have a purpose for being here. Once I start picking and choosing, I no longer have faith in that foundational truth and am once again having faith in my own judgement which we have already deduced is a very dangerous thing to do.

But who is right in the end? Does it really matter?

Yes… Yes it does. Even if you don’t feel the affects of it right away… truth is truth no matter how much you believe otherwise. Should I eat a poisoned meal I would still die no matter how much I believed it wasn’t poisoned. Should I believe that I could insult others without anyone caring, they would still be hurt. As much as I can believe I can write these posts without many shaking their heads and some their fists, there are going to be people out there like that. Our faith has no effect on reality…. but it has an effect on us DUE to reality! So choose carefully and keep thinking and observing. This world is tricky but amazing at the same time

Dimensional Questions

Hello Everyone!

Slightly different post this time in the fact that this was NOT originally from facebook. Nope! I didn’t think anyone on my facebook would find it interesting, but I do so I still wanted to write it which made me think “…wait… don’t I have a blog for this stuff?”

Today we are going to delve into SCIENCE!… kind of… Before we start I just wanted to point out that I am NOT a “Real Scientist.” I have not gone to school for science save for aerodynamics, and basic physics, I am just a highly sensitive person/HSP (Person who’s senses are on overdrive allowing me to see, hear, smell, feel, and all around ‘notice’ numerous things at once, a lot of which no one else can notice such as high frequency noises, differentiations in similar smells, tiny bugs and grains of sand moving several meters away, tiny vibrations, electricity running through wires, air pressure, etc) who has spent most of his life testing his observations and making assumptions based on them. (Which in my opinion IS what science is supposed to be…. but people get angry if you don’t have the degree to back it up so I’m pointing this out now.) In addition it should be noted that I do NOT differentiate between theology, philosophy, psychology, and other sciences…. We live in one world so why would these things NOT be connected in some way??

OKAY! Long old disclaimers out of the way. Onto the fun part!

SPACE TIME AND PERSONALITIES!

Anyone who has read my past posts have probably realized I like to ponder and obsess over the concepts of “Identity” and “Who/What/Where we are.”. While I do not think this is something we as humans can fully understand (As one of the more theoretical rules of reality is something cannot fully comprehend something equal or greater to itself), I DO think it is important to address as majority of our modern day questions of morals, theology, psychology, medical science, and politics very often boil down to this point.

When is something “human”? Are we thoughts or chemical reactions? Do we have any control over ourselves or is control simply an illusion? Are our instincts and carnal desires to be trusted or condemned?

All these and more all really boil down to the same fundamental question… Where and what are our identities??

If you’ve REALLY read my other posts, you have seen me discuss my theories that our personalities are tied to, yet not confined to our physical bodies… kind of like…. emotional hand puppets made of meat and matter….

Now when I’ve explained this in the past, I’ve used the example of dimensions.

The first dimension is essentially a straight line. ____________________ It goes back and forth for infinity but it has no up and down.

Add in the second dimension and we have the cartesian plane + which is essentially the realm of every drawing we’ve ever seen. While we can “mimic” the 3rd dimension in the second, it is always an illusion which seems to pale to the real thing.

Then we have the third Dimension. Space… where we live right now… This is back and forth, up and down, and in and out. That’s right. We have depth. And we are thankful for it save for when I try on swimsuits!

Now in my theory, majority of our ability to OBSERVE is about 90% bound to the 3rd dimension as that is the dimension where the body parts WHICH observe are located… but in my theory, the dimensions don’t stop there.

Fourth dimension. Emotions, feelings, thoughts. THIS would be where “WE” are. Where we control our bodies. What changes as we grow and experience new things. What we fight with when we insult, heal with when we encourage, duel with when we debate. This is effected by our 3rd dimensional physical forms, but not tied to them. Much like a 3rd dimensional person is at all times within the second dimension (think about when you trace your hand on a piece of paper) but the second dimension cannot contain us.

Now my theory goes on for a fifth dimension, angels and demons, sixth dimension, time, and eventually working your way up to the top dimension of God. But to start us off I’m going to limit us to the 4th dimension as it can be a bit mind boggling in itself.

So why do I think this? I mean isn’t it crazy? Aren’t we just a bunch of information processing machines that are reacting and adapting to a series of stimuli and making physical adaptions at a subconscious level?

Well aside from how that in itself kind of proves my point…. There are several reasons I have trouble accepting that.

1. We have free will, even if we don’t have strong will.

People get hurt,  emotionally and physically. People get thrown into circumstances. People have urges both carnal and moral… yet we also have the ability to debate with ourselves and decide which one we follow. We are not machines, programmed to react to certain situations. Even if our physical form can limit how we express our thoughts, how EASY or HARD it is to think, or what amount of other temptations there are… the fact that we can still think, shows there is something beyond our physical thoughts or moral memorizations to guide our actions.

2. Emotional Pain and the Effects on the Body.

“Sticks and Stones may hurt my bones, but words will never hurt me!” ….it’s a lie….. We all know it’s a lie. Words hurt. They can make us physically ill. They can make us feel like we’re stabbed. Give headaches. Our body madly adjusts to fix things that aren’t broken… but our “heart” is…. How can this happen? How can something not physical create such a reaction within us? How can NON physical interaction scar us? Well what if there is something beyond physical that is getting scarred?

3. The Internet!

We live in an interesting era. We can talk with people around the world without leaving our couch. We can build close bonds with people we’ve never seen. But that in itself raises questions. These bonds are real. I can tell when my friends are happy, sad, angry. I can tell who they are, what they stand for. I am emotionally and physically affected by my interactions with them…. How can I do that with someone I’ve never interacted with physically? Who I can’t even see when they’re talking to me?? There’s something else interacting there. Something which can override the limitations of physical space itself (yet still can’t give hugs… come on technology! Get on that!)

Okay. So there is something of us. Call it soul, spirit, will, personality, whatever you want. But there is SOMETHING beyond the physical realm which appears to be affecting our physical realm. Something more complicated than simple information we memorize and store. The ability to process and more importantly, react to information in a personable level. Sentience. Personality. It’s there. But how?

Believe it or not this is not too far from where science is already headed. To explain, I will head to our friend, the black hole.

Black holes were long considered to be incredibly dense vacuums which sucked everything into them crushing them to oblivion even though matter cannot be created or destroyed. That being said. As we begin to understand gravity better, our opinion of black holes has changed.

We have long since believed the fabric of space time is not just flat… In fact, most scientists draw space time as a series of ripples  and waves. A better example maybe would be the fact of warp speed in sci fi, which is not so much going super fast, but bending the fabric of space around it to change the distance you travel.

Too confusing and what does this have to do with gravity? Okay let’s try it this way.

Take your old spandex jump suit…. if you have one I worry for you. Spandex is stretchy and boingy. Stretch it out so that its hovering in mid air. Stretching stretchy things is fun! Now place a rock in the center of it. See how the rock bends it down? If you had this standing perfectly still, and threw a marble across it, the marble wouldn’t go straight. It’s path would be bent by the weight of the rock and start to go around it. Star to “Orbit” it! (see where I’m going with this?)

Things in existence have mass. Planets have mass, stars have mass, and yes. Black holes have a LOT of mass. Black holes have so much mass in fact that the current theory is that they actually bend space time so much that they break  it! That the reason why they are so black, isn’t because light cannot escape it, but because they are out of physical space and time itself. They don’t exist.. but always exist… BECAUSE TIMEY WHIMEY STUFF!

Now how does this apply to dimensions…. Well as we just said… space has a shape. And black holes bend that shape to the point of breaking. Now here is the thing about shape. In order for something to have a form, that form must be within something itself. Essentially, if you can fall OUT of space… there must be some plane of existence outSIDE of space within which that shape is being manipulated.

THIS would be the 4th dimension.

Okay, I am way overtime on my writing time on this. But that is the basics. If you have any questions or theories yourself, write them in the comments below and I’ll try my best to answer them! Thanks for listening and like all things in science realize this.

THIS is NOT truth…. It’s not a lie either…. at least not intentionally one. It is simply my observations and conclusions drawn from them. Just like any scientific theory or discovery since the dawn of time has been other scientists trying to create as logical of answers as they can from what they can see. But we are human beings. We are small. We are limited. We cannot observe everything out there let alone understand it, so this therefore, is highly unlikely to be 100% true. But it still has value. As it suggests a direction. And it’s from travelling down that direction that we start to see if it works or not. As that is what science is and what science does. Anyways, hope you enjoyed this little ride! Space/time theory takes a few tries to wrap your head around, but once you do it opens up a LOT of possibilities!

Have a good one!

Mac out!
